Chapter 6: Homosexuality and Lesbianism

It is easy for me to talk about homosexuality and lesbianism in the Russian Federation. There really is no homosexuality and lesbianism in Russia. The Russians are very good at confidence games coming from a society that has gone through incredible periods of upheaval. The spy services train agents to pretend to be these things and agents who act better than others stay longer in the FSB. Counterintelligence and surveillance activities require employees to pretend to be these things. Many Russian agents pretend to be prostitutes to gather information. Russia is expert at setting up brothels to lure and blackmail businessmen and honey traps (this is where attractive women lure a schlub of a man with tall tales of dastardly lovers, pimps or bosses) to capture foreign dignitaries and spies.

The problem with alternative lifestyles in Russia is the long winter. Few movies ever show the reality of being in a homosexual relationship in a communist country. Many towns in Russia are below 15 degrees Celsius during the winter. The East Germans, a former communist ally of the old USSR, revealed the level of surveillance they did on lesbian athletes on their national teams and frankly, the details released made many communist athletes cringe. The most intimate aspects of their love lives were detailed, catalogued and circulated. Worse, many athletes actually fell in love with what were Stasi agents or informants. These individuals then set them up and betrayed them. This resulted, time and again, in lifelong psychological trauma.

Many adults going through these developmental stages will grow out of them according to Russian psychologists. Women find marriage hard. Men find marriage hard. Children make marriage even harder. The reality of life dawns on many and Russia encourages many to choose different paths. Do I see Russia changing? Russia has a long history going back to ancient times. It has an incredible anti-homosexual stance that dates back centuries. I am only saying what is. Do I think Russia will change? I really doubt it. These lifestyle choices are frowned on in all ethnic tribes in Russia's hinterland.

Russia has many ethnic tribes. Most of them are "elder" or seniority based. Thus, alternative lifestyles fascination with youth is anathema to Russian belief systems. During the communist era, homosexuals were allowed to defect. Mind you, for blackmail and extortion purposes, intelligence operations routinely tolerate and pretend to be homosexual and lesbian to set up honey traps.
